Tony Horton's P90X

A tribute is a form of homage. A tribute is an acknowledgment, a Shout Out. That is the purpose of this page.

What is P90X, and why take a serious look at it and the rest of Team Beachbody's
array of fitness products?

P90X is the brainchild of fitness guru Tony Horton, who appears in each and every one of the dozen videos in the series. This is a man who has dedicated his life to the art and practice of fitness. He does it again in this series, a versatile, hard-hitting rotation of workouts that will tone you, thin you, and strengthen your muscles.

P90X is a 90 day program - the '90' between the P and the X. Its unabashed purpose is the transformation of your body. The idea is that you start at Day 0 as a standard fit human, but without a great deal of muscle definition, and with a bit more fat than you want. By the time you reach Day 90, you are strong, energized and owning a new body.

So that is the '90' and it is tough. Horton, who is as encouraging and helpful as a fitness phenom can be, is also a taskmaster. He is asking for six tough workouts per week, each close to an hour in length. Say that again? :)

As with all things, you set your own pace and move to your own rhythms.

Before you start, you should be in shape and medically cleared to exercise in this way. If not, Team Beachbody has plenty of other great products for use and enjoyment.

Nuts'n'Bolts

Horton is a kind taskmaster: he and his cohorts warm you up into each routine (one per video), so that all the relevant body parts are tuned and happy before moving into the meat of the workout.

That is where the 'X' comes on. It stands for
extreme as in extreme sports. This is a tough series. It attacks specific areas of your body using weights and resistance training, speed and agility. It asks that you go to places that you could only imagine before.

To make this one work, you need to want to accelerate your fitness and achieve a level that once seemed out of reach.

The series includes emphasis on and segments in each of these areas:

1. Chest & Back;
2. Plyometrics (jump training);
3. Shoulders & Arms;
4. Yoga;
5. Legs & Back;
6. Kenpo;
7. Stretch;
8. Core Synergistics;
9. Chest, Shoulders & Triceps;
10. Back & Biceps;
11. Cardio;
12. Ab Ripper.

That's a lot. If it's too much for you right now, Team Beachbody has a
full suite of alternatives from which to choose until you are ready for the rigors of Xtreme workouts.

The uses of this sort of program are incredible. It will boost your
overall fitness. It will make designing an individual workout program that much more fun and beneficial. It will make you a better tennis player and a better athlete in any sport that you pursue.

P90X - it is very real and it is very, very good
